String quartet and string ensemble scores

Biography

Welcome to my site. I hope  what follows is of interest  to you.

Graduating from Cambridge in 1971 and now a solicitor/mediator in Cornwall, I have developed the ability  to create varied and interesting string pieces following my successful score for Brecht's Caucasian Chalk Circle in 1970. Publishing 2 novels in 2015 my interests turned back to music and the following  scores were created over a matter of months in 2022.

As an accomplished violin payer with Cornwall's St Mewan Sinfonia, I have developed the ability  to create harmonious short pieces that are  encapsulated in the title. e.g. "SEVEN (for Ukraine)" which stresses the tensions of war and the hope for a peaceful outcome. The title is derived from the time signatures of 4/4 and 3/4

Other  pieces will follow on this  site such as Medieval Melody, Arabian Dance, Momentum, and Romance in C- to name but a few. I can supply individual photocopy parts if required.

I am revising the incidental music to Caucasian Chalk Circle as a suite for 2 Solo Violins with a contemporary feel. SIMON CHACHAVA is a good  example of progress with this project.

"When We Were Young" develops and disguises early English nursery  rhymes in a variety of ways. They can be difficult  to  detect: some play simultaneously, some in the  minor key and  some repeat now and again e.g. Three Blind Mice. One is  repeated at twice the original  speed to illustrate the disguised Rhyme (which one?). The music is classical in harmony and very interesting  to listen to with many adaptions and variations  that keep your audience and players glued to the outcome. I will select a couple of the tunes for  development as  a stand alone piece in due course.

Having recently  concluded a musical version of Under Milk Wood (Possibly unique) this is available and would be of interest to  schools and colleges as it involves 30 characters and 23 songs or vocal interchanges. Scored for flute/violin, Violin 2 Cello and guitar this small ensemble compliments the characters in the sleepy village of LLareggub. All original words have been used with no alterations and a full libretto is available along with a full musical score.

Moving into choral work I will upload some pieces including the Lord's Prayer, Do No Go Gentle Into That Good Night and And Death Shall Have No Dominion and Why Forsake me?

If you have any requests please contact me with your  theme and the duration and mix of string instruments  required and I will endeavour  to  produce a tune/theme/arrangement in a style that suits.
